Insulate It Solutions – Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation, when properly applied, can dramatically reduce a home’s energy costs. It is made from 2 types of composite material – polyurethane and isocyanate, which chemically react when sprayed at the tip of a spray foam gun causing it to expand and harden in place creating an airtight seal. This is how it provides superior insulating properties compared to fiberglass or cellulose.
The spray foam insulation is injected between the studs and wall plates of the frame of the house, or in the case of commercial construction, into wall cavities. It is then covered with a sheet of metal, drywall and paint to hide it. Unlike traditional insulation, which can be easily blown out, spray foam is permanent, and it has a high R-Value per inch of thickness – 6.5 to be exact.
How Spray Foam Insulation from Insulate It Solutions Improves Energy Efficiency
In addition to reducing heating and cooling costs, spray foam is highly water resistant and can help protect the building from condensation which can damage it over time. It also provides superior sound dampening, and it is fire retardant.
Using a spray application method, a trained contractor can install it in new or existing walls and attic spaces to create a custom insulation envelope. In the case of older homes, spray insulation can be sprayed inside of the attic space between the joists to prevent the intrusion of mice and squirrels and to replace old fiberglass or cellulose that has been compressed or has become displaced by these animals.
